Welcome to the European Commission's information hub on life cycle thinking based data, tools and services

This site supports you in integrating Life Cycle Thinking into product development and into public policy making with structured, cost free and independent information.

This new version of the LCA Resources Directory (launched on 09/07/2012) has been improved to increase knowledge sharing among the life cycle thinking (LCT) community. Through a personal maintenance area, contributors can register and characterize and share their LCA studies (including Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)).

It comprises two main areas:

  • the European ELCD database with the Commission's "European Reference Life Cycle Database" (ELCD) of Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) data sets, foreseen to contribute data to the upcoming International ILCD Data Network
  • LCA Resources Directory of Life Cycle Assessment studies (NEW!) and life cycle oriented services, tools and third party databases

To ease your start with Life Cycle Thinking and Life Cycle Assessment you may want to read the Introduction to LCA. In order to identify the appropriate services, tools and databases for your purpose, you may either follow the application-oriented User guidance, which you may also find in the menu to the left, or directly jump to the respective "Services" section. Many important terms are briefly described in the Glossary and under Links you may find links to relevant life cycle oriented policy activities and international projects.

Updates/Newsletter:

Both the ELCD database and the LCA Resources Directory will be updated and extended; this will be announced in due time.

More information about the European Platform on LCA project can be found on the project documentation homepage, accessible directly under http://lca.jrc.ec.europa.eu/EPLCA; see also "News/Meetings" for downloadable presentations.

Although this new version of the Resources Directory has been tested before the launch, some minor difficulties can still be experienced during its use.

Please do not hesitate to report any bug / difficulty / suggestion using the email address lca@jrc.ec.europa.eu
